Our Vision
An East Africa where the teaching profession is highly valued, well-resourced, and respected; where teachers work in dignity and deliver world-class education that transforms societies.
A unified regional platform for teachers' unions across the East African Community.
FEATU was established in the early 2000s as East African nations deepened their integration through the East African Community. Visionary leaders from national teachers' unions recognized that many challenges — teacher motivation, education quality, working conditions, and policy gaps — transcend national borders.
FEATU was created to provide a unified regional platform to address these issues collectively while respecting the autonomy of member unions. Unity is strength. Together, teachers can achieve more for the profession and for the millions of learners they serve.
Currently, FEATU has 9 affiliates, all affiliated to the global union Education International (EI).
